Monday - UTube: It's Not On the Test

A bit of education humor. It would be funny, if much of it weren't true. The video would have been much better with---I don't know---Bono? Enjoy.

It's not going to get any better if Obama has his way. Merit pay equals testing.

I feel your pain from another angle. Learning about health has been pushed way down to the bottom of the ladder, too. One big challenge of a school nurse is getting all the required screenings and health lessons done, but schedule them around the core classes, "mandatory reading time," (8:30-10:30 daily) and the weeks surrounding the standardized tests. I think there are four sets of tests now.

It's sad and frustrating.

Just saw this now.

Poignant message. I'm not an educator and I haven't been one to challenge the education system, I think, because it's probably too much work.

What really struck me, though, about this is how much of this "testing" stuff carries over into the rest of one's life.

At my workplace, we have a "Performance Management" system that is not much different in idea than what the song in the video was saying.

In a word, I loathe it. And now I see how we're really cheating the children of today and probably inhibiting a lot of talent development that otherwise might occur.

Interesting stuff Marsha.
