This article on facebook etiquette connects well to what you're saying.

As someone who hates to even answer the phone, facebook gives me my 20 feet of personal space and the ability to still seem nice. With a few exceptions, it’s nothing personal.Evan and Julia Ablahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13611518156255266260noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33389069.post-46490867015160176912008-06-16T11:08:00.000-05:002008-06-16T11:08:00.000-05:00I started on Facebook for similar reasons; to keep...I started on Facebook for similar reasons; to keep in touch with family and friends.

But, as you observed, it's easy to let this thing suck up hours of your time. Time better spent doing other stuff...in the real world.

When I look at my Facebook now I more or less pronounce upon those I know who currently don't "have a life" because they are obviously on Facebook playing with all those little apps.

I grew weary of the apps and invites and eventually disabled all but the most essential of apps. I ignore every invitation I receive now as well.

There's still a little bit - very little - that I do via Facebook, but I spend more time (computer time) doing the blogging thing (whether reading or writing).

I remarked to Ann the other day, "I probably don't get any e-mail 'cuz I don't sent any e-mail." She allowed that this made sense.

I don't know. Computers can be and are useful tools, but there is so much about them to dislike too. Guess that's the curmudgeon in me talking.

Interesting post, though.

RobAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
